All NetBurner Serial to Ethernet Servers come preloaded with software to translate serial and Ethernet data, and is configurable through any web browser. The application code can be customized to any specific application requirements with a development kit.
Network-enable existing applications
The serial to Ethernet server network-enables serial devices right out of the box - no programming or development is required. The hardware is pre-programmed to convert your serial data to Ethernet, enabling communication with the serial device over a network or the Internet. The onboard web server provides easy device configuration using a standard web browser

By using two NetBurner serial to Ethernet devices you can create a “serial tunnel” that enables two serial devices to communicate over an IP network, even if both of your serial devices have no network capabilities. The IP connection between the two devices will be transparent to the serial devices.

The included virtual COM port Windows utility enables you to easily access serial devices located on a remote NetBurner device as if they were plugged into your own computer. When the attached serial port device sends communication data, it is actually transmitted over a TCP/IP or UDP network and back from the network to your serial device.
- Configuration through web browser and the NetBurner IPSetup utility
- Password protection
- Firmware updates through network or serial connections
Factory application supports up to 115,200 bps. Supports custom baud rates.
Serial Protocols Supported2 TTL
Serial ConfigurationsThe UARTs can be configured in the following way:
- Up to 2 TTL ports
- Add external level shifter for RS-232
- Add external level shifter for RS-422/485 (up to one port)
Note: UART 0 also provide RTS/CTS hardware handshaking signals.

This windows utility enables you to easily share serial port devices over the network (Internet or LAN) with NetBurner devices. When the attached serial port device sends communication data, it is actually transmitted over TCP/IP network and back from the network to your serial device.

Is the NetBurner Single Chip Network Platform the most cost effective device for your application?
The NetBurner Single Chip platform is an extremely cost effective platform for simple applications, but this comes at a cost in features and development time. Unlike the standard NNDK applications where one can expect to add significant features to the examples, the factory application and bundled examples are close to the limit of what can be done with the platform. You can modify the applications, but if you add features also expect to remove features. See table below to determine whether or not the SBL2e will be the most cost effective device for your application.
